Felt Bird Pods [In-Person]
Dawn Edwards

Sunday, November 10, 2024 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Gladwin Center (4105 W. Liberty, Ann Arbor, MI 48103)
Member Fee: $105
Nonmember Fee: $130
Enjoy a fun day of wet-felting as you create a felt bird pod for the feathered friends in your yard. Since the bird pod will be made of naturally water-repellant wool, you can watch it last through the seasons hanging in your tree. Small birds such as wrens, nuthatches, and chickadees will use them for shelter and/or nesting. This is a great introduction to wet felting, employing the same techniques used in making hats, bags, and slippers — transforming flat felt pieces into three-dimensional objects. feltsoright.com

One Warp, Many Structures: Explorations in Extended Parallel Threading [3-Day Zoom]
Denise Kovnat

Three Saturdays: February 22, March 1, and March 8, 2025
Member Fee: $160
Nonmember Fee: $185
As Marian Stubenitsky has shown in her book, Weaving with Echo and Iris, extended parallel threadings offer endless possibilities. In this workshop, designed for advanced beginners and beyond, you will begin with your loom dressed in a two-color warp on a parallel threading. (Drafts will be provided about 6 weeks beforehand.) Working with a variety of tie-ups and treadlings, you will weave a series of designs in Echo, Jin (Turned Taqueté), Shadow Weave, Rep, and doubleweave. The takeaway is a sampler of colorful patterns and a broader, deeper understanding of the potential for extended parallel threadings and how to design them. For 4-shaft to 32-shaft looms. denisekovnat.com
