Fiber Spa

This fiber art gathering offers AAFG members studio time to work on projects and share ideas and techniques. It’s also an opportunity to get to know each other better. Some months will feature a member-led fiber art demonstration.

We meet Saturday mornings in The Gathering Room on the second floor of Zion Lutheran Church
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

September 20, 2025 – A discussion and show and tell about fiber industry waste, second-hand shopping, up-cycling, mending and reclaiming fiber materials.

October 25, 2025 – Knitting 101 mini workshop with AAFG member Joanne Scollard. This workshop will help Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild members prepare for the February 2026 Wooly Wormhead workshop. This KAL (knit along) will help Guild members prepare for the February 2026 Wooly Wormhead workshop.

PREP WORK FOR THE OCTOBER KNITTING 101 FIBER SPAFor the KAL we are going to use a free Wooly Wormhead pattern (Sideways Bobble Hat) which you can find here: https://woollywormhead.com/blog/2007/01/10/sideways-bobble-hat

To work this pattern, you will need:

  • 138 yards/126 m/100g chunky weight yarn (for new knitters, please check the yarn label for the recommended size needles)
  • 5 mm/US 8 knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 5 mm/ H/8 Crochet hook and waste yarn (for provisional cast on)*
  • Tapestry needle

*We will have some crochet needles and waste yarn for the provisional cast on at Fiber Spa, so if you don’t have those at home, you can borrow ours.

New knitter advice: Don’t worry about the exact thickness of the yarn. Buy a yarn you like that is recommended for size 8 or 9 knitting needles. The pattern is very flexible and you will be able to finish a nice piece with any yarn which is close enough to the recommended size and the right size needles. Joanne will discuss knitting gauge so that you can have a better idea of the yarn you will need for the February workshop.

November 22, 2025 – Needle Felting 101, mini workshop with AAFG member Carolyn Michaels
