“Paper Dress”

Join paper pioneer Jennifer Collier as you create a fashionable, small paper dress from ordinary office supplies and recycled materials you can easily source at home. Her recent work has focused on collecting rarely used heritage stitches and translating them from fabric to paper — techniques that you’ll learn over the course of this four-hour workshop (30-minute break included).

Either work alongside Jennifer throughout the day or follow along off screen as she demonstrates paper pleating, covered binding, button loops, pockets, collars, and patchworking papers to create the “fabric” for your dress. She then shows you how to put it all together to construct your garment. Show off your style with her embellishment ideas and create something that really suits you!

Please note: You’ll need a sewing machine to complete the dress within the timeframe of this session and will need to print out the template she provides beforehand.
Deadline to register is Monday, October 30, 2023, due to pattern distribution.

California Quilter Thom Atkins invites you to bring a sense of adventure and imagination to this mini-quilt workshop. Drawing from his unique mix of whimsical imagery, abundant textures, and blended techniques, Thom will inspire your improvisational spirit and unlock your sense of play as you turn leftover fabrics into a cohesive new piece. Gather all the odd fabric scraps from your stash to give them new life as an abstract art quilt composition. Finally, a way to put all those little bits to good use!

“Ice Dyeing”
Natalie Drummond
Indiana-based educator and multidisciplinary fiber artist Natalie Drummond will help you plan and create a customized color palette using MX dyes, ice, and cotton fabric samples and plant-based yarns. As a vibrant weaver and felter, she is no stranger to adapting materials to help you create your own color story. After a presentation and demonstration of techniques, participants will explore ice dyeing hands-on. You will leave with a new spectrum of colorful materials and a solid grasp of methods to use for your own dye experiments.
